This week in review
I'm still on a blogging break, but I don't want to disappoint you, my loyal readers... nay, fans! So, here's a bit of my week, in review.
We had some crazy snow come through on Sunday night. I really don't follow what the weather people say is going to happen, because, most of the time, it's not accurate enough for me to really be interested. So, Sunday night, I'm taking a nap and Tim goes out to get some pizza. He comes back in and says, "It's snowing outside, can you drive and get the pizza with me?" I am like, "What? It's South Carolina. This isn't Montana. We don't get snow here." But, sure enough, I looked out the window and 6-7 inches of snow were coming down fast. It was crazy.
Somewhere in all of that snowstorm, our cable got knocked out. Getting it repaired was a bit more of a fiasco than I wanted it to be, but, it was really no big deal. It took a few days of calling until we finally got things in order and an appointment scheduled for repair.
I had an eye exam on Wednesday. I always hate going in for eye exams. I worry too much about them. I had one last year (a couple of days before this blog started) because I went in to renew my driver's license and failed the DMV eye test. Yep, that's right. So, I went and got my eyes checked. I'm on yearly checkups now, which is probably a good thing. The eye doctor that I go to is the same one that noticed my twin brother Tim's brain tumor when he had an eye exam back in 2005, which started that whole chain of events with brain tumor cancer, etc. So, of course, every time I go to the eye doctor, I'm thinking, "This is it. This is when the doctor sees the same tumor in the back of my head that I should have, since Tim and I are identical twins."
After having my eyes sprayed, poked, blasted with light, dilated, etc., I was deemed to have "good eye health". My prescription changed but not enough to get new glasses. I did have some enjoyable moments while having the eye exam... one of which was memorizing the eye chart and reading it to them while not looking, to prove that they should probably be changing the letters up every time, at least for people like me with photographic memory. I also got my glasses straightened again since I dropped them a few weeks ago.
So, I spent pretty much all last week and up until Wednesday morning worrying about dumb things like eyes and tumors and all of that. I really should learn to not worry about things out of my control... because... really... is anything in my control? The answer is no. It is all in God's hands.
The rest of my week was pretty uneventful. A cable tech came out on Thursday morning to fix the cable but couldn't because the power line was too low, or something.
I had to call the power company and have them come out and pull the line back up. That phone call made me laugh. A lot. Somewhere along the way, I got disconnected and then reconnected and I was able to hear a phone conversation that I probably shouldn't have. And it was hilarious. I had to call Charter again Thursday evening and schedule another appointment for them to come fix it. Two customer service reps escalated my call to dispatch and they came out today to fix it.
I was expecting just one Charter cable tech to come out. I had to leave work and come home around 1pm but it was not a big deal. The guy showed up around 1:30pm. He took a look at the problem outside the house (after I explained the problem inside). About 30 minutes later, another cable tech van pulled up. I was kind of surprised but figured, hey, when you're Big Papa, people just show up to get things done for you. 20 minutes later, ANOTHER cable tech van pulled up. By this time, I was getting intrigued as to what the problem might have been.

They worked for about an hour and a half and then the cable came back on and they left. One of the technicians said the line was dead, or something, and they had to replace it. I wasn't sure what that meant. After the three of them left, a fourth van pulled up about 20 minutes later (another guy) to work on the problem and make sure I was happy. I was really hoping more vans would have pulled up at the same time... kind of had a record going.
So, anyway. That was kind of my week in review. This weekend should be fun. My friends Rex and Catie are in town so I'm sure I'll be hanging out with them some. I've been cleaning the house in anticipation of their visit to see the new place. I've also got to catch up on some work on Saturday to get things ready for Sunday... can't say I'm really looking forward to that, but I take my responsibilities pretty seriously and it's important enough to come in on a Saturday to get it all done instead of trying to squeeze it in on a Sunday.
That was my week in review! Not a super busy week but not entirely slow, either. We'll see how this break from blogging/writing goes. I really like to write, but it's kind of stressful sometimes too. I'd really like to start some kind of writing project that creates dialogue with others... if you have any ideas.
Later,
Joe

Hey - I like the new blog format, reading your weekly review rather than daily. Not that I didn't enjoy the daily review.....
